Proud to be British

Consider, if you will, the young people of Britain in the late 1970s. Were they proud to be British? There’s only one way to find out: look to the tabloid newspapers in the hope they might have run a survey.

And right on cue, here’s the Daily Mirror speaking to a couple of hundred young Britons forty years ago in February 1979 – just at the end of the Winter of Discontent and just before the election that took Margaret Thatcher to power. It turns out that the NHS and the monarchy are the kind of things in which we should take pride.
